SMITH

TANX

Can I say OMG. I have been hung-up albums before, this is nothing new. Admittedly in past few months I have come to absolutely adore T.Rex & Marc Bolan.

T.Rex - Tanx is where it's at. Originally released in 1973 on Edsel Records. The reissue, remastered and expanded 2 CD digipak was released in 2002 on Demon, Edsel, Rhino. It features the original album plus 7 bonus tracks & an additional 19 tracks of demos & alternate versions with 16 page color booklet packaged in a plastic slipcase. Listening to this album you get the feeling every single tune is well crafted unique pop gem. I always think to myself this entire album is better than listening to a greatest hits album by other popular music artists. My only real comparison to this is the fact each tune is single worthy. By the way I don't condone greatest hits, I think they are a lame cope-out. This is not what the artist envisioned it & bastardizes the whole thing. That being said, the fact that every tune is single worthy doesn't merit a good album by any means. Underground rubbish is at least half my listen. Anyway, T. Rex never had any real success in U.S. for reasons I have yet to discover. Even when I do, I don't think I'll quite understand it. Marc is a lyrical genius (most don't make sense but sound great. Style or substance sometimes). However in the U.K. their success reached climaxed to the level of the Beatles. I am no great fan of the Beatles, but I can I appreciate their sound. However, T.Rex was really compared to David Bowie & Ziggy Stardust which I have been a long time fan of. I openly admit in my book Marc Bolan kicked Ziggy out the Glam-Rock thrown about 1 year ago when I first received the Electric Warrior album. It would have been sooner still, but as we all know some good things go undiscovered for much to long. But when you get it, it gets you! You know what I'm talkin about bitches! How any times a year does this come out of your mouth, "why did i didn't I ever know this existed?". Son of a whore. Peeling back the layers of the musical onion as some say. Back on track this raging phenomena was referred to as T.Rextacy! Ha, I know.

You should purchase this album immediately. Wait this sounds like a promotions excerpt. Well it's only my opinion, okay whatever. The remastered version includes 20th Century Boy which should be reason enough to buy this gem. That aside Electric Slim & the Factory Hen is my most likely candidate for best track on the Tanx album.

As I stated before each song IS a gem on this album. Therefore this album is encrusted. You love it. T.Rextacy for life. R.I.P Marc Bolan. TTFN.

YOU BETTER WORK

My mom. What can I say? Love this picture. There was a few others but they didn't turn out. They are hanging above my Grandma's fire mantel. Well probably since they were taken 37 years ago. So moral of the story I stood on a chair quick to snap a picture of a picture. You can vaguely see my reflection in there.

A FLAT I LIKED

Fil's Melbourne flat packs a lot into a small space. Filled with a combination of vintage Danish furniture, iconic mid-century pieces of 70's plastic-ware, this is clearly the home of a collector. Whilst it's easy for collections to spiral out of control, it's the clear preference for specific colours, timber finishes and forms that draw us to this apartment's spell.

I only really like the accessories ie. the lamps & bowls. I think the problem is the staple pieces of furniture are boring. I take that back the credenza is really a noteworthy piece. I love the arabia, copco, cathrine holm, dansk, heller & kartell pieces though. TTFN.

HAIL

It hailed here on Thursday night. Always a strange phenomena to experience. Glad I wasn't driving even though it was about 120 seconds long.

OBJECT OF AFFECTION

Flos Snoopy Table Lamp
Designed: Achille Castiglioni, 1967
Manufacturer: Flos

The Flos Snoopy table lamp by Achille Castiglioni is a superbly executed work of art/lamp; it features our favorite material; Italian Carrara marble. Carrara is a town in the Italian Alps. The marble (Michelangelo's favorite) from this area has been used in Italy since Roman times.

Snoopy was designed in 1967 by Achille & Pier Giacomo Castiglioni. Snoopy is a unique and fun table lamp that provides direct light. The table lamp has an enamelled black metal reflector, white Italian Carrara marble base and integral touch dimmer.

• Material: Metal, steel, Carrera Marble.
• Size: 14.5" h x 16" d
• Bulb: 1 X 100W

I am really surprised this lamp has no real following that i know of/hype. I was just browsing through a Mod furniture site maybe a month ago & there it was. The snoopy lamp designed to emulate Snoopy by Charles Shultz. How weird. I don't know what it is about it. But, what I think is great about it:

• The overall design is somewhat organic, minimalistic, well balanced & unfussy.
• Uncommon, thus a lot less predictable.
• Incorporates marble in a an innovative way.
• Still manufactured & can be had for $850-980 (not cheap, but somewhat obtainable).

Hmmm, I am sure there are other things. Moral of the story is I would like just two, I think they would make great bedside lamps. However one would be okay with me as well. I just wish they were available with a white shade instead of black. I like the black even so. Even better, a white shade with a black marble base & a white knob. Mmmm. Maybe I will have to photoshop one up. BTW, the green one is a vintage FLOS production. Not sure what other colors they were originally available in either. Green seems to be the only color that pops up when I try to internet research. If you have any additional information regarding this lamp please let me know. TTFN.
